I didn’t sense anything bitchy coming from piggy... seemed to me to have good intentions... but your response was rather appalling and more of a personal attack IMO. I would agree the list of good tank mates would be rather lengthy... But I am afraid I seem to now be rather unwilling to help you.

If you are keeping social and gregarious fish , fish that in the wild would group together whether it be a tight school like large numbers of Tetras or less compact groups like Barbs and Danios , then you should try and replicate that in your tank (as space and upkeep allow) Most books , magazines , websites and people would recommend keeping Botia in groups of at least 3 , preferably 5 or more.
If you can accommodate that into your current setup then perfect if not then it would be better to rehome your existing lone Striata. Expecting him to shoal with a totally different family of fish is wrong and would be like expecting a child to be happy living with Gibbons as it's family.
Would a group of 5 B. striata really be that much of a problem to keep in a tank with or without a specific theme? The answer is No.
