Could be Schistura vinciguerrae. They are 'doing the rounds' at the moment.

Really bad quality  sorry, but these were taken just as the fish were adjusting to their new temp tank. Coloured up a lot better now, bit secretive hence no up to date pic's but maybe in time....

The tail has taken over mostly red now, but along the same lines as the pattern seen here.

The Schistura vinciguerrae and Schistura mahnerti.

Two different species, i think. If they have spots on around the face and plenty single vertical stripes along the lateral line then it's most likely the Schistura vinciguerrae. The Schistura mahnerti doesn't have spots around the face with no single vertical stripes. They all connect on the Schistura mahnerti.

i thought we were right Graeme, at the time Niel got his virtually all the shops had them they must have exported thousands of them.

You know I was wanting Schistura vinciguerrae for my brook/river tank, funny how things work out isn't it :D

These two don't show any aggression which is also a big bonus, for now anyway.

Yes Mick-Ive spied them a couple of times and decided some other time to get them, so these were to compensate for the more aggressive Schistura that was in *forget the name*-you were right though, they were stunning

I dont look that far away from Botia loaches but the Schistura crimson is a really awesome looking fish. Good for you Ashleigh. :)

Since having the loach book I have seen other really good looking Schistura loaches such as Schistura vinciguerrae and Schistura mahnerti.

I am not aware we get any of them here. Out of interest, how comman are they in other parts and are they expensive relative to other loaches?

Sorry if this is going off the topic.

we get loads here most of the time they just have red tail shistura, it could be any of them but usually it's mahnerti that we see.
price wise i'd class them as cheap around 2-3 pounds each up north.
