I would love to but i have practically no money.

Anyway, sorry Emma for going of topic!

Hmmm, where is The Dark One when we need him?
Jim Powers wrote:By the way, have the Loas tigers lost the yellow color?
All the ones that have grown have lost it, but the ones that are still small (and I don't know why some have grown and some haven't) still retain quite a bit of the yellow colour.

On the loaches or the Garra?

I think it's more a case of full bellies. I know we are not 100% sure on what species they are, I still think they are quite young. I'd say they were between 1.5 and 1.75" TL max.
geaston wrote:emma how do you set your camera up ? do you use a tripod ?
Nope, just steady wrists. Have a look at my 2nd reply in this old thread, when I gave David some pointers: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=9435

I think those Clown Garras tend to show the spots when they are stressed or when bickering. They were visible on arrival but after that they seem to have darkened down and blended in a lot with the overall colouration on the fish's flanks. If I see 2 of them having a scuffle, they are lighter with the dark spots showing.

Here is a pic that the supplier sent me the week before we got them. The Garra is in a tiny photo tank and is showing the spots:

P.S. Have got some more new Garras hopefully coming in next week which are listed as "Ugly Face Garra" ( :!: awwwwww) and are apparently another newly discovered undescribed species from Burma. 8)

Jim,

Here is what one of the larger Laos tigers looks like now. As you can see there is still a hint of yellow in the fins, but nowhere near as much as the juveniles. There is much more in the way of red colouration as in adult S. berdmorei:

and for comparison, here's what they were like when tiny:

I'd guess the so called Laos Tigers are in reality not from Laos but from Burma ? and are the young of our old friend S.Berdmorei , theres no difference once they mature  .

That is interesting.
Are these now thought to be a local race of S. berdmorei instead of a separate species?
Perhaps in the wild, like some other loach species, they keep more yellow than they do in captivity.

I am summoned o Emma.

The spotted Garras are Garra spilota.

The ones that look like flavatra are probably G. poecilura.

The small Garra from Vietnam look like Garra obtusirostra to me.

The Acanthocobitis isnt a pavonacea, its possibly one of the many variable forms of zonalternans, possibly the Phuket form (phuketensis). We will know as it gets bigger, its a bit small at the moment to be sure.

The Schistura's look like maepaiensis to me (as piggy also thinks).

The "Laos" tiger Syncrossus - I have said for many months now that IMO they are from the Salween or Ataran system in Myanmar, and are a form of berdmorei.

Back to the fires of Hell I go.
