here i like the OT and the way people are not always serious on the fish forums. some other places seem to be all about moderators answering questions for people, with no discussion, just - heres an answer for you. here i like the way people have different opinions, and that is much more true to real life. and i agree with martin, all the people from here i have met in person have been really nice

if i was to have enough space for all the loach tanks i would like, then i would have a couple of cichlid tanks, but again, set up for specific fish, rather than the mixed mbuna that you see all to often for sale.

i like to go to petfrd for a look, but i dont know enough to post anything. its interesting to read

i have a friend who keeps fish, and she likes the typical community tank - mollies, guppies, tetras, the odd small catfish or cory, and she struggles keeping most of them for very long. she cannot understand my tank, which doesnt look very tidy, with floating anubias and dirt on the back glass, dark sand and bogwood, and most of the daytime all you can see is rasboras and the odd barbel that wont quite fit inside a cave. she doesnt understand why the only fish i have lost in the last year was a rasbora that died after moving house, and that was one of my long-suffereing fish from the batch i bought to start my first tank. she would never understand this website

I have had fish for about 3 years now. When I get into a new hobby, I tend to jump feet first. I only keep about 1/4 loaches. The rest of my fish are livebearers, dithers, catfish and oddballs.

I spent almost two years searching the Internet for information on my fish. I spent a lot of time at many other forums, but I absolutly love Loaches online. The biggest differences for me were: 1.) There's always a discussion going on. (I felt like some of the other forums had been desserted) 2.) People are friendly, helpful and eager to help. (Other forums I felt like the purpose was purely intellectual -- everyone trying to prove how smart they are. Some were purely esoteric.) 3.) People are nice to beginners. (Other forums have no patience for beginners.) 4.) When you ask a question, there's an answer immediately, at most 24 hours if there's someone on the forum who knows the answer. (On many forums, no one replies.) The answers are usually based on experience.

I am so happy for the info on Loaches, and it fuels my interest in bigger tanks and more specis of fish. But I am also grateful for all the info on the other freshwater fish. I don't bother with other forums, because it seems most of my questions can be answered here. However, when somene on this forum recommends another forum, I do go and take a look, because I value the opinions from people on this forum.

There are a wide range of opinions and everyone is passionate, but mostly polite and friendly.

I tend to watch most topics on here even if they are outside my interests on the freshwater and off topic forums. There is very little flaming , hardly any troll posts and some very informative and educated people for both Loaches and other fish as well. The off topic discussions are varied and interesting and the moderators do a very good job indeed. Out of the forums I post on and watch this and PFK are the only ones I really trust for truthful and consistent advice , welcoming and passionate atmospheres and openness in posting and no backbiting of other members.
