Very nice!!
Now getting a better look at them, they look a bit like a Sinogastromyzon wui (but with more markings and color) with a touch of gastromyzon in the head shape.
Thanks, Emma!!

Wow! Thanks for the pics Emma, they're beautiful!! How big do you reckon they get? I'm guessing the big ones in the pics are 2 1/2 in. or so??? Any feel for their disposition yet?

They are indeed, Harold.

I did give Martin the code the first week they appeared on the list, but I'm not sure if he saw it. Fingers crossed you get yours.

Very, very shy and like to hang out in darker areas. But don't let this put anyone off, they are very beautiful and well worth the wait for a glimpse when they venture out into the open.

Does anyone have a description of
H. formosanus? I just want to double check that this is definitely what we've got here, before I add any pics in to the LOL species index. The only pics I've seen before are on Fishbase - one of which is of a preserved specimen, and the other one of a live specimen is similar to these fish, but I don't think it's identical (it looks longer in the body to me, with slightly different markings). I could be wrong though - see what you think:
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/species ... formosanus As you can see, there is no real descriptive text about these loaches on FB.

Comparing the pics they look quite different to me. The tail colors and shape are not the same. The formosanus in the link(the one on the flat rock) seems to have 3 lobes on the caudal fin and yours look more typical, and the formosanus in the link doesn't seem to have the distinct bars like yours. If you compare the underside pics the fins are different also, especially the anal fin.

Good, I'm not going mad then!

I shall summon The.Dark.One to see if he has any relevant info in his library for us.

There does seem to be a difference.
Why don't you run this buy the folks on petfrd.com?
