Thank you very much bit of a change with the substrate, the sand was starting to settle in areas the plants wern't but larger pieces were not falling around the plants so I threw a layer of sand over the top which the fish seem to enjoy hunting through so I may thicken it as time goes on.

The B.striata have began venturing out for most of the day now, theres at least 4 always in view. I have a feeling that they were always over shadowed with other loach species that I put them in with as they were never this confident, I think it was certainly a good decision to keep them alone


Still no clearer pic's of the Parotocinclus sp as it sticks close to the back of the tank Il keep at it though, its a cute little thing

Back when I got her she was very mild mannered, and I actully had her in my Pangio tank, but she nowadays she is ok, she has her bad days and won't be pushed around, usually shes fairly well behaved

hi Ashleigh, just a quick question.
out of the large striata that you got what percentage are female?.
as looking at mine the majority are females, and i was on the bell to piggy last night and he has found the same with his.

Im not to sure Mick, I know I have at least 5 females-I bought 3 which were a tad gravid just a couple of weeks back, the first lot Im not to sure although another 2 have fattened greatly since I added the last three that I bought.

Il try and get pic's of each one later and you can try and sex those who arn't showing obvious signs

Looks like the bottom specimen in that last photo is a female. I have a couple right now that have even larger stomachs, although not sure if its because they are gravid or if they're full on the yummy blood worms ive been giving them.

you have some wonderfull fish there. beautifull markings, and they look in great condition. your tank is lovely

i can see at least 3 definite females, possibly more and a couple of males.
they're in beautiful nick though.
