Yes, her 'boyfriend' is called Stripes. Here's a picture of them both (alongside a standard 30cm/12" ruler):kimby wrote:she's lovely, do you have a male that matches her in size?
She needs to meet mamaschild's Fat Albert. I think he's close.![]()
As you might have guessed by now, we didn't have Marge and Stripes from young, we re-homed them about a year ago. Thanks to a tip-off from Mary who sometimes posts on here, we went and rescued the pair of them from a shop who had in turn re-homed them from a customer who's tank they had outgrown. When we went and found them, the poor things were on their own in a 5ft tank with one bit of bogwood to hide behind - needless to say they were quite stressed out. We have a 1000 litre aquarium at home, with over 40 Clown loaches. It took Marge and Stripes a little time to adjust to their new surroundings (it was 7 weeks before Marge came out and fed) but these days, they are both confident fish that mix well with all the others, and Marge makes it clear that she is boss of the tank! The other Clowns in the tank are a mixture of ones that I've had for 14 years, ones we rescued from customers who have bought them in to our shop, and others were picked for their strange markings.HylaChristine wrote:Did you get Marge as a baby or a young adult?
Thanks Brian!topline wrote:I've admired your clowns for ages. Just a question if you dont mind... you say the larger clowns "come out"... What sort of hiding places do you provide for clowns of this size?

If its true???
Not a lot is known about the breeding habits of Clown loaches, but yes, it is thought that only the larger, more mature specimens are the ones that breed. In their native Indonesia, specimens over a certain size are not allowed to be exported, so as to safeguard the breeding populations.kimby wrote:Do you think there's anything to the thought that the reason no-one gets clown spawns is becuase they need to be full grown?
Thanks, palaeodave!palaeodave wrote:Fantastic pictures, really nice fish. What size is your tank?!?!?!
