I've thought about getting some Rhinogobius myself but they seemed rather expensive in the aquarium shops near me.

rhinogobius are totally not expensive out here

the problem wil be the loaches
i'm already thinking of a new hillstream with rainbow darters ^^
ps. does anyone know how big the tank should be???

I've done something similar like you, but a Vietnamese biotope. I keep the Vietnamese cousin of the White Cloud (Tanichthys micagemmae) along with Sewellia lineolata. At the moment it is planted with Vietnamese plants, but I'm thinking about converting it to a rock only tank and increasing the flow:

I can only second cloud mountain minnows, I have them in my tank and they are realy loving the moving water.
