Jim, I've defintely noticed that the males have brighter and more defined markings in Sewellia lineolata in addition to the 'fences'. I'll have to have a good look later to check the pectoral fin shape and let you know.

I had the perfect opportunity to check my
Sewellia lineolata a few mins ago.
On the LHS front glass was a fish with rounded pectoral fins, and on the RHS was a more 'square shouldered' looking specimen. I slowly sneaked a look through the LHS side glass and the fish with the rounder fins had no 'fences' and a comparitively drab patterning (not that any
Sewellia are *really* drab
but you know what I mean). Then I crept round to the RHS side glass and got a look at the square shouldered one. As expected this was a brightly coloured/marked male with 'fences' to show. Now just got to get a chance to check the Spotties, who are a little more reclusive in the R/T.

Unfortunately my 'Gems' are always hidden at the back of the tank.
I've always wondered on how the males fertilized the females. Any clues on these images? Jim,Martin? Or was there 'session's' private?
