I thought the geo only gets to 7-8 inches?
Which is too big for a 55.

Because it's not OK to keep a 7" long fish in a 55. There's absolutely not enough room. It's cruel.

Back to the filter issue. First let me describe my tank - it's 55g. with an Aquaclear 70 (used to be 300) HOB power filter that is on the left side of the tank. I have 3 clown loaches, 3 zebra loaches, 4 algae shrimp, 1 cherry barb, 4 glowlight tetras, 2 zebra danios, 2 leopard danios and 2 flying foxes. It is partially planted, about 35%. Water parameters are nitirte 0, ammo 0, nitrate 20, and ph 7.4.
I had posted about my clown loaches hiding in their root stump, just a few days ago. After reading a few other posts I decided that I would add an air pump with air stone to the right side of the tank to get more circulation because the goop accumulates over there. The clowns are happier with that, but now I wonder if I should actualy get another filter for that side, or just move the other one to the middle.
On hand I have a cheap little corner filter with some floss and carbon. I also have an extra Tetra whisper filter with carbon and a piece of foam, that is for a 10 gallon tank. What do you think?

peacefulfishie, basically, the calculations are all there in my reply to botiaboy about his 55. I would add another filter....not sure what the Whisper is, but if it's a small power filter that will work.
It is almost impossible to OVER filter a tank for Botia type species. The limitation on current is the other fish you have in there.
Everything else you've got should like the current with the possible exception of the Cherry barb who would appreciate the company of its own kind.

Thanks Martin! The Tetra WHisper is a small internal filter. Good for a small tank, but not adequate for a large one . . . but if I use it to supplement the tank I think it will work.
My poor cherry barb lost his partner a couple weeks ago. I've had a run of bad luck and not re-stocking until it gets right again.
