Very nice setup. Where did you get the fine sand? It looks great. Is it still brown when the lights are on?

The sand is from Emma's.

the water looks fine with both lights on, but when i take a water sample for testing you can see its a bit tinted. i will get the csarbon in tonight though.

thanks for all your comments :D

I like the tannin-stained water. 8) It looks beautiful and often enhances the colours of the fish.

i was thinking last night how the harlequin rasboras were looking colourful, and a while ago Tom noticed the striatas striped were looking bolder, but the r. dorciocellata are often just visible by blue/green lamps darting along the tank. they are the hardest fish to take photos of

i quite like the look of it too, i like the natural looking ness of it, but id like to run the carbon for a few days after having treated the fish

Emma your tank water is beautifully clear and your fish look fantastic

the thing i am worried about is a big bit of wood i got, and it grew a slime over it, which was slightly white in places. if i keep scrubbing it, is it going to be safe to put in the tank in the end? its a bit whiffy at times. i got it just after the LOL meet in december, and its been soaking since.

I am sorry I didnt make myself very clear. I ment did the tone of the sand stay the darkish brown or does it look more tan when the lights are on. I like a dark tanned look also, plus Apistos love it.

sorry to misunderstand. the sand is black sand, and in the bag it looks a dark grey colour. in aread with less wood and plant, you can see the sand is defiantely grey coloured. i see what you mean about it looking a bit browny coloured, but it doesnt ever go lighter or tan coloured. i havent seen it anywhere other than Emma's

Whatever it is, it makes for a very nice looking substrate. And the particles are so small. I am envious. You can't find that around here and I dont know why. Again I say you're tank is very nice. I would not change a thing.
