Anyone got any idea in time between egg release and hatching?

I've got a cannister filter that I've got to clean but I'm wondering if its worth keeping the water and removing the filter sleeve and keeping in an aerated bucket for a while but I'd like to know if its worth it.

Have you witnessed any spawning behaviour? I'm still yet to see mine 'in the act' so can't really comment myself on length of time until the eggs hatch. Although I've had several batches of young Sewellia now, there is not always young/eggs in the filter every time I open it up. If you suspect that a spawning has occured, I'd be inlcined to leave the filter as it is for 10 days or so, then pour the contents through a fine net to see if there are any tiny fry.

I witnessed several days of spawning behavior. but did not see any egg release, although I wasn't around all the time....I had at least two pair who were going at it for several days for hours on end doing the circle dance...This was about a week or so ago I had been holding off on the cleaning, but the filter was finally so clogged that the filter wasn't putting out any flow, so I put the water in a 5 gal bucket with the old filter sleeve from a magnum 350 and will put in an airstone later for a while.

I had already put sponge intakes on the HOB filters so that shouldn't be an issue.


I guess I'll just wait and see now. I have a small net suitable for brine shrimp so I'll guess I'll check around once in a while an see how that goes.

Meanwhile, I got 10 new Sewellia that I've put into the prototype rivertank and that only has the cannister filter. I'm crossing my fingers there too.

This is just a guess, but from what I have seen with the egg development of P. cheni, I would say about 4 days from release to hatching. However, the recommended 10 days Emma mentions is a good number, just to be sure. My L. disparis and P. cheni fry would usually emerge from the gravel at about 10-14 days after the eggs were laid.

Guess I know were to go if I ever decide to setup a river tank... I've never seen any localy before, until now! Good job man.
