Thank you for all your comments. :D

I've just been reliably informed by my supplier that the water conditions at the collection location are pretty soft and acidic (pH 6.0-6.5), so anyone lucky enough to purchase a group of these chaps (and please do make sure a group is purchased despite the high price tag) these are the sort of conditions you should be aiming to keep them in. It took the fisherman more than 3 days to collect these loaches from a very difficult location and it would be just terrible if fishkeepers were to purchase single specimens. I encourage people to do the right thing. The ones I have imported will not be sold in groups of less than 3. 8)

Most of the Emperor Botia from this supplier are apparently around the 4-5" mark, but he has commented that there were some big 6" specimes too. I have been informed that some of these fish have been shipped to Germany and Canada amongst other places, so be on the lookout!

I wouldn't be looking at anything in that league, much as I like the fish.
Oliver deals with a lot of high-end stuff.

Excellent photos. I really like your photo tank setup too. It shows them off really nicely.
I'm suprised that they look so fantastic in the situation. You usually expect fish to be faded out with stress. How long did you let them settle before takling pics?

Thanks chaps! :D I really didn't have them in the photo tank for very long, 10 mins max. I started snapping straight away and they actually seemed to settle down quite nicely. They even started a bit of a loachy dance at one point! I could've taken lots more but I didn't want to cause them too much stress. I initially tried taking pics in the 4ft stock tank (they are in with some discus and cories) but the other fish kept getting in the way. I am just in total awe of these loaches, they're just amazing. 8)
