what species of fish is the large solitary one with the black 'pearl' toward the anal fin, are those horizontal stripes on his anal fin? i cant tell. if so, i see that species in a lot of photos/videos and have always wondered.
edit: nevermind, i see from other videos the anal fin is not completely striped just tipped with red, not the fish i thoguth it was but im still interested in it's identification

I have 6 striatas & 9 sids together. In the 2 main hiding spots the largest 3 fish of both species share 1 & the smallest another. But when it's dancing time the striatas are all out sometimes with a sid or 2. The sids school with the rasboras.
When the bigger SAE cleans the front glass most of the loaches try to join in. But he only goes up in wiggly slow motion & soon gets annoyed by all the attention.

B.Kubotai and B.Histrionica are supposed to be genetically very close, according to the Czech paper from the year ago. Yet, they don't recognize each other. Interesting.
Now, do we know another about the shoaling habits of the unusual loach that went from Emma to Helen? Did it/Does it shoal with any other loaches?

sadly, we shall never know, as when i went to get him, he was nowhere to be found.
we can hope that he was sold by mistake to someone keen on loaches who will appear here somewhen
slightly aside, my biggest striata is in charge of the yoyos. when fatty wants the food they are eating, fatty gets the food. and the best bit of sand, and the best log-perch.

REALLY sorry about this. That was a unique fish, I was looking forward to seeing more of it.
On the Aside issue: yoyo's seem to be lacking in determination. That they allow a smaller Kub to mistreat them here syncs with your Striata. I guess it is smaller than them too?

I think you mean the lone female
Puntius filamentosus Jamie.
Martin.

yep that's it martin, thank you. that is a beautiful specimen you have
the other fish i thought it was at first was either a Semaprochilodus insignis or a Semaprochilodus taeniurus (i dont really know the difference between the two).

Mikev: yup, the striata is smaller than the yoyos, but he is quite chunky. i just introduced big bad bertha and big bad betsie, and one yoyo hid. the striata decided to have a bit of a go though. the striata is dwarfed by these monster yoyos. i think the Loach Creator forgot to tell the striata he is not a skunk

I am STILL trying to find
Striata. Beginning to look impossible.

BTW, Helen, what about your unusual super-beautiful Striata? Any problems with socializing with the "normals" ?
