Nope, these hardly move at all, they sort of lie limp, even when you try to pick them up. They're also a lot smaller, maybe only 1cm long. Oh, and they are a vivid reddish/pink.[/quote]

Are you sure they are not eggs from one of your fish or snail???

Darter... WOW! amazing pics. You must share some tips with us on aquarium photography :)

I've taken a look at the worm as well and while I don't know what it is, I think you should vacuum them out of your tank whenever you see them and then study them in a separate container. They may be eggs.

Good idea, but the size is way too small. The smallest eggs I've seen laid are from the Olive Nerite Snails, and they are twice the size of the eggs seen in the photo.

Thanks for all the compliments on the photos. I shoot with a digital SLR (either a Canon EOS 10D or a 40D) and use a 100mm f/2,8 lens for the macro work, and a variety of other lenses for the wider shots. Sometimes, I use a studio light, angled in from the side. Basically, I just try to shoot straight into the tank.

I hope you are able to solve your worm question and your fish are well.

I looked at your amazing tank pictures, and saw that you were asking if your Banjo Catifsh was ill or pregnant to the catfish website. Could you let me know what you found out? I have a few pretty fat catfish, including a banjo and a spotted raphael. I am pretty sure my spotted raphael is just fat. She'll hide out a few days after she looks like she has swallowed a pingpong ball.

Do your Banjos play dead? I find that a bit unnerving. I didn't know about this quirk, and when I brought my two home, I went to remove them from quarantine to the main tank, and one was completly limp and with a heavy heart I went to dispose of it. Thank goodness it started flopping about 20 seconds after I removed it from the water.

Hi Darter,

Have you ever fed live tubifex worms?
see here for a pic of them in someone's tank:

And another page on Freshwater Worms.

Hope you can find out what they are, what they do, if they are harmful...and let us know what you learn. 8)

and that's a beautiful tank!

Hmmm, they do look like tubifex, but I never fed them to my fish. Of course, I find all sorts of critters in there at times.

Take these tiny bugs for instance...

It took posting on forums to learn they were Springtails, a terrestrial insect. Who knows where they came from??? The lived at the waterline for a while.

I learened from posting on Planet Catfish that she is just full of eggs. And yes, that playing dead act almost got her taken out of the tank once or twice when I first introduced her.

Thank you so much for the info. I am very sorry. I realized I jumped right into the middle of this post. Just so curious about those Banjos. Thanks again. Tanja
