How about rounding up a box of books and shipping them around to be signed by all the authors and selling them on here as a site fundraiser for $60 or $70. I would be in for one.

I was asked yesterday if I'm interested in doing a book-signing when Harold gets his stock of the book in at The Menagerie. This is all kind of out of my previous experience, but I said yes.
Martin.
Thats hot.

Book signings are fun. You get to sit at a table and look important. I don't know how many books Harold hopes to sell, but it's a jolly nice offer.

I'm sure we would all be happy to do this, but to make it actually raise funds, it would be a slow process. The cost of shipping books ain't cheap. It's a good idea though.

I wish they would quit changing the release date. I've held my breath as long as I can

Well, we began this journey 4 years ago now. So holding your breath has never been a good plan. I figure it's an opportunity to really come to terms with the limits of your patience.

Oh no! I want this book and have been waiting patiently for it to come out. Have been so afraid something would happen and it wouldn't. I love my loaches but there are so many more out there

Maybe just one copy then--in an auction.

Domestic US media mail is not too bad, depending on the weight of the book.

International is a bit more.

Perhaps aquarists can e-mail a picture of their tank or loaches and you print it on a nice paper get it signed (and perhaps add a personal note?) by the LOL-team members and mail via post. It would be a great bookmark or addition that could be added to the book later. Or even better, have the “book-makers” provide an envelope-kind-of-thing inside the book, with the note “fit your personal copy right here…” and an e-mail addresse how to get it…
.... the envelope could have a cut out window in the shape of a loach or so, and the print could be made like a puzzle, so that the personal letter completes the picture of the ornament of the nevelope in the book, ... showing the user-synonym of the LOL-fan,...
… or just print the LOL team in the book, if not provided already…

In case add-ons are an option, a regularly update (flyer only or magazine type) may be interesting. It´s different to reading online - having a nice copy provides stress-relieve on a trip, when not at home - without your tank. No need to carry the entire book, I´d like to see those at a dentist waiting room ...
This book is not just a book. It´s tied into an online community, every loach-lover can participate in this loachy world – it´s alive.
Updates please...

i was wondering along similar lines to wasserscheu. if you were to be able to have a signed book plate (is that the right word? when i was a kid i had sticky bits of nice paper with pictures on and a place to put my name, to stick at the front of the book. i got one too for my year prize at uni) then it would be affordable for more people, and could raise more money.
i know martin has excellent drawing skills, and there are no shortage of 1st class photographers here, so it could look really good.

Book plates! That's a great idea. I wonder if Mr. T. can come up with some design or other?
Otherwise we'll have to invest in one of Margaret Atwood's signing deelies:
