Update 24-01-2007:

Pics of the larger fry from the first spawning, taken earlier today....

And I managed to capture this one, which was a surprise. This fry was trying to eat a small snail, grabbing it in it's mouth and thrashing it's head from side-to-side. I knew something in the tank was keeping the snail population in check, but I had always assumed it was the Schistura balteata!

And here's a few pics of the smaller fry from the 2nd spawning, also taken today:

Great pics Emma :)

You must be psychic, I was actually going to ask if anybody with Sewellia has noticed if they eat snails or even bother with them, my river tank has a healthy population of both MTS and Tadpole snails :D

It's really amazing how they start out looking almost barred and then the spots start multiplying. I can see how you would have been puzzled about what it was at first-there's so much change since they were tiny fry. I'm enjoying the pictures.

I managed to get a few nice close-up pics of the fry from the 2nd batch, but the larger one must be hiding somewhere. Now that it has learnt to cling, it is not always visible!

So, here's the little one:

Will keep a look-out for the other one.

For those of you with withdrawal symptoms (hemi!), here's an update on the Sewellia sp. 'spotted' fry for you all. :D

Pics taken this afternoon 02-02-07:

First off, here is a rather amusing photo of the little fry from the 2nd batch, doing the 'Corydoras-type wink'.....

Now some pics of the larger fry from the 1st spawning:

(apologies for scratches on glass  )

A couple of pics that show both fry in the same shot:

And......the first time I have ever seen the larger fry on the front glass - WoOt!

Image

Image

But this has to be my favourite shot of the day - another one of my total flukes!....

What is very interesting is the fact that this fry is now considerably longer than some of the Sewellia lineolata fry that were present in the tank before this little fishy was even conceived.
