I *think* there are either 7 or 8. Can't remember how many we rescued from the filter as it all happened in such a panic! They are never all out at the same time, but I'm sure it's 7 or 8.

Loach fry update 12/07/2006.

I'm having some problems with my camera , so think I'm lucky to have got these few shots tonight. I'm hoping it's nothing major as I really don't want to be without it at the moment whilst the fry are developing.





There were 3 of them together on the glass here, but you can only really see 2. The third is just in the background.






This is a bit of a naff shot (taken holding the camera around the side of the tank), but I thought it was worth including so you can see how small these loachies still are. It shows one of them hiding inside a piece of ceramic media tube, which if you are familiar with, you'll know they're pretty small:

Most of the time they go about their business moving around over the side glass of the tank. If they are disturbed for whatever reason, there are 2 or 3 of them that hide in the ceramic media, the others still hiding under the sponge or on the glass behind the heater.

Somehow they seem "wider" to me, like if they are becoming more suckers than lizards. Some orange breaking through as well...

I'm counting 8-9 dorsal rays and 13-14 caudal rays which is consistent with my own Sewellia pics.

Now, I wonder when they are going to start developing the lines on the tail?

It's the Lateral line development pattern, that i'm looking forward to. I wonder what age this develops.

The front half of the body already seems to be developing the typical Sewellia pattern.

Hopefully on Friday, I might actually see these little chaps. I'm picking up a couple of 'not so common' loaches. (not cheap)

We'll of course, expect pics of the new purchases.
