Not outwardly aggressive towards fishes too small too swallow but its predatory nature and adult size naturally restrict the choice of suitable companions. It's also a sociable animal forming apparently complex social hierarchies meaning 3-4 specimens should be the minimum purchase which with fish of this size further limits the potential for tankmates.

In enormous aquaria larger, riverine cyprinids such as Balantiocheilos melanopterus , Barbonymus, Hampala, Luciosoma and Tor spp. may be possibilities but we know of few private aquarists possessing the facilities required for such a community.

My biggest one seems to be punking my smaller ones. Maybe its just him? I don't know. but right now i wouldnt suggest more than 1. Hes more aggressive than my blue botia, tiger and skunk wrapped into one!

I seem to recall that. The deletion that is. The sentence read as a whole makes no sense....unless you were there I guess. The only 'a' in the word deleted is the one you utter (pronounced "eh?") when you find your pictures gone.

Ok, ok....I'm having a dig. I hadn't looked at this thread before and reading negative stuff within it like this just raises my hackles. I'd have thought Northern Monkey was actually knowledgeable enough to at least had a decent stab at the species. At least been helpful.
I would definitely have said Leptobotia and leaned towards elongata based on eye proportion and the other hints being put forward by L4L.

Hope you have a honkin' big tank. Oh......and of course a few pictures more wouldn't go amiss.

So long as we're having a moan, I'd like to go on the record that I'm not keen on this new black-on-white format. I found that reading the white-on-blue was easier to read on my sunny balcony (as you poor northern folk freeze- HA HA HA)
I'm actually being serious- i did like the other format, though it's no drama to get used to this one and I appreciate the designer/moderator's efforts.

Wow based on this thread I would conclude that Loaches Online has really fallen into a state of indifference and mediocrity...someone please correct me if i am wrong, I have been away for a while?
