I'll try and have a closer look later.

I also picked up a few of these from up here last week. Still not sure if they are
Liniparhomaloptera disparis disparis or
Vanmanenia hainanensis but i think they are
Vanmanenia hainanensis because of the shorter upper section on the caudal fin. The lfs told me that a new shipment is due in this Friday. Plenty of these seem available lately.

I'm not sure if I am counting properly but I can only seem to make out 4 rostral barbels on Mick's photos. If this is correct there are too few for V / H hainanensis, but the correct number for Liniparhomaloptera. Also, as far as I am aware hainanensis only comes from Hainan Island, not from Hong Kong or Guangdong Province. The structure of the mouth in terms of the lower lip
appearing to be separated from the upper one appears to match Liniparhomaloptera genus (in Vanmanenia / Homalasoma and Formosania the lower lip is not separated from the upper lip). Whatever they are they are v nice!

hi lads, ive had a check on the rhinogobious that was in the same shipment ,they came from mainland china,
now it could be my brain, but if they were hainenensis why would that be the only sp from that location?. hainan island
i'm still leaning towards the dispar. sorry for confusing things lads.
