The powerheads sound fine but personally I would add another external filter of about the same size - 1600L/hr, this helps in two ways:

1, adds to the overall turnover of the tank and helps keep water quality as good as possible
2, always makes sure that you have one mature main filter that is running when the other one is cleaned which again helps water quality

Your main aim is to keep good water if you can do that you should be able to keep good fish :)

Some powerheads can be turned down but ideally you want them running at maximum, Martin has written a good article on powerheads - http://www.loaches.com/articles/water-m ... h-aquarium

okay so to grow clown loaches to good size, tank size and water quality is most important-whereas fast flowing water would also be ideal?

Yeah pretty much, there is also the issue of good feeding as well and water changes. I carry out 2x 25% water changes a week if I can, if I know I am going to be busy then it will be 1x 30% to 40% water change.
