i've been trying to find a pic of one of my youngster that got that excited over food going in it almost went golden with anticipation, all the dark bars faded out.
ah well backto searching.

in order the first pic is when you can see the bars then they get lighter and finally you can just about see them, have you seen the same thing?.

Graeme i'd stay off this thread for a while unless you fancy doing a bit of chopping and changing

Me and Mick talk about the colours of young Dario's mainly the differences between some populations , this is pretty dramatic in younger fish , not so much the abstract patterns ,but the ones that have wide yellow bands and narrow dark bands, really the ones with wider dark bands and narrow yellow bands look like minature adults
I suspect Graemes fish was a yellow type ? and looking at his pic i suspect that the fish was nearing 3 inches standard length ? sorry to go on Graeme BUT you will keep putting these wonderful pics up

Its nice that there are a few of these larger fishes are being photographed more often as they will give people who might fancy trying them , a chance to see what can be obtained within two or three years time

Although quite different in colour the breaking up of the bands with maturity gives them an almost Striata look

I don't mind! This is closest i'll be getting with them. Yeah he was around 3 inches SL.

the smaller eos seem to really hate fish bigger than them.
The eos take it out on my largest modesta too

Dont like this Dario pic , i always thought the challenge was to condition your fishes ? not to torture em ! its about time you got priorities together , personally i dont think there is an excuse for this kind of husbandry .
I gave Mick some Eos a good while back and they predictably attacked his existing Almorhae's , they were removed and placed into another tank almost immediatly

i agree with my mate, looking at that poor fish was'nt the nicest thing to see, i understand that it had to be moved but to put it with eos was going to be an eos win all the way. it's like putting a poodle with a pit bull.

Those are excellent pics, Mick. I have seen them do this, but never managed to capture it on camera (yet...).

like I said
it seems like eos don't like fish bigger than they are. I put some smaller darios in the same tank and they were not touched. It was moved (and the smaller dario) after I discovered the abuse it was taking.
I thought it would be fine in the grrr tank after all it was the tuffy of my reg loach tank.
note that I also have young yoyo's in my under stocked grrr tank and they were fine.

I thought you all might like to see the first batch of the new Botia dario season. They are probably the nicest B. dario I have seen so far, gorgeous yellow background colour with really dark bands. The bands actually have a midnight blue sort of tinge to them when viewed under certain conditions. And in case anyone is wondering, these were imported directly from India. Size is 6cm TL.
