Garra flavatra Jim.....I was just off finding these images taken at Emma and Steve's shop.....
Nice fish Frank, but as you now realize, not a very flattering picture they sent you. Sure they didn't get the pics mixed or something? This "Sumo" monicker seems to have been attached to
Schistura sp. before.
Martin.

LOL! I didn't catch that. They sent a pic of the panda garra, and it looks exactly like that.

Mick and everyone
From memory I think Kottelat says males have a suborbital flap, rather than just a thicker cheek. I'm at work at moment so cant check.
If youve seen anything you may have seen the flap?

hi martin and steve,
i'm sure they have very short bristles, on my camera it looked like it had'nt shaven for a day,
martin ive seen them pics, what i meant was a shot right between the eyes , i might be wrong about it all-together.

Hi Mick,
I will do my best, but it could be quite difficult with them constantly jostling about in the tank! I'll add to this thread if I manage to get any over the next few days. We have around 60 specimens in stock at the moment, so hopefully one or two will oblige.

Kottelat says that some Schistura have a suborbital flap in males, some species have the first few pectoral fin rays wider and stronger, and some also have rows of tubercle shaped shaped unculi on the pectoral rays.
In cincticauda he says some males have pec rays 1-3 wider and stronger
In paucifasciata he says the dimorphism is unknown to him, and also says this in balteata.
Some species do appear to have males with thicker cheeks, bucculenta?
