Just got back from this evening shipments at the shop to find the mystery fry right by the front glass. Needless to say, I quickly got the camera out and finally got a couple of decent shots!
Barbels and non-overlapping pectoral and ventral fins......

(at this stage anyway)....

I'm standing by my "none of the above" (though last time I remember being vehemently wrong!)
I love that little snub face, it's very cute.
your photography is - as always - just lovely, Emma.

Well.....looking back at the old Sewellia pics, I'm seeing an awful lot of similarities in the head shape, mouth shape, eye proportion, etc.
So I'm still in the "Spotty" Sewellia camp on this one.

Life in the fast lane eh!
This little un, looks superb! Cracking pictures Emma. I just wish we could see what saucy habits these have.
Hopefully one day!

Here's some more pics from today (22nd Dec):
First up, here is the mystery fry (above) with a
Sewellia lineolata fry (below). The
S. lineolata fry is a couple of mm longer, but you can see these are 2 different species....
Head-on pic:

Emma, is there any chance it could be anything except a hillstream?
it just soooooo doesn't look like one!

Not unless it's a zebra plec, which, having seen many photographs of very young zebra plecs, we're pretty certain it isn't!

(plus our two never interact and are still quite young).
The only other fish in the tank are:
1 x
Annamia sp. (been a lone fish for some time)
10 (ish)
Eirmotus octozona
2 x L46 zebra plec
2 x mature
Schistura balteata
Lots of
Sewellia lineolata
and a good sized group of
Sewellia sp. spotted......
Nothing new added in a long time, except the
S. lineolata fry from the baby tank - and there was nothing else in there (that tank was set up using water and media from the main tank only).

Good job, i'am not a betting man! The first picture with the
Sewellia lineolata makes you think, either it's a different loach compared to
Sewellia lineolata and
Sewellia sp spotted or maybe it
is a
Sewellia sp spotted as they are a larger loach.

Heheh! I'm still not sure at all!

What I can say is that this fish is still not attempting to 'cling' to anything like the juvenile
Sewellia lineolata in my fry tank are. Some of this batch of
S. lineolata fry are about the same size and are already on the glass. As I said earlier in the thread, I saw this fish go up onto a cobble the other day, but apart from that, it stays on the sand.
