Cheers chaps! They have been very active today, up and down, doing the loachy dance. We've been having thunderstorms on and off all day, so 'tis true what they say about these wonderous creatures! 8)

Emma,

Once again fantastic photos.

I don't want to send this thread off topic but would you mind posting a picture/description of how you set up the camera & lights for taking these excellent pics of such small fish?

Hi TC,

Of course, I don't mind you asking, but you know, I wasn't that happy with this last set of pics (I thought the set before were better). Still the actual set-up for both was the same.

These little loaches are growing on in a small tank at the moment, which makes photographing a little easier. It was an old photo tank of mine, which measures 12" in length x 8" wide and 8" high. (It actually wasn't that good for photographing fish in anyway - narrower tanks are much easier - but this is still easier than if they were in a normal sized tank). The tank doesn't have any lights over it (would make the small volume of water too warm) so I just used my little 40w desk lamp for temporary lighting whilst I was taking the pics. I stood it on a chair to the right of the tank, slightly towards the back of the tank and angled to face slightly forwards. I also used the in-built flash on my camera (Nikon Coolpix 8700) to help too, and shot in manual mode on macro setting.

Hope this helps,

Emma

Wow, they have grown nicely 8)

I saw some healthy looking gold dojos the other day. I would have gotten them if I had some where to put them.

Keep up the good work :D

They seem to eat any foods offered to them with gusto! I started them off on Interpet Liquifry No 3 Baby Growth food (a very fine but nutritious yellow powder) and frozen baby brineshrimp and cyclops. They now enjoy daphnia as well, and will munch on crumbled flake crisps, different brands of micropellets (sinking) and even on larger pellets which soften up once they hit the water. So they have posed no problems whatsoever with regards to feeding - they seem to enjoy everything. 8)
