After a bit of a major clean up of my main Loach tank I have just discovered this huge crack in the back pane of glass..
It is about 10"-11" long and i would never have noticed it if I hadn't removed the backing to re-fix it..
I'm in two minds on whether to attempt a patch up job by plating it on both the inside and outside and hoping a seal will hold for future use.
In the meantime I am having to divide the inhabitants between other tanks on a temp basis until I can get a replacement tank (or more the funds for a replacement tank.. )

They say bad luck runs in threes... whats next??


[NB If anyone sees any tanks with a minimum 5ft x 2ft footprint (or longer) for sale in the North west of the UK could you possibly let me know ...
A number of firms cannot replace until after the new year so I am struggling at the moment...]

I think I'm going to be very busy with water changes and filter maintenance for the next few weeks..

I wonder if Mick has some spare tanks that he could lend to you. Mick where are ya?

At the moment I only have the following spare (thankfully I donated a lot of fish to my daughters school a few weeks back) :-

60x30x30
60x38x30
76x38x30

The Cyprinids will be going into the GRRR tank at my house. The loaches will have to split up into their separate species into those above for now as it is the best I can do.
I did toy with the idea of buying a couple of standard 4foot tanks to make do but may be better off just waiting..

Just be glad that you were fortunate enough to find the crack before there is an actual leak that is endangering your fish. I know there was one time I was helping my sister move her guppies from a 5gallon to a 10 gallon tank. We dismantled the 5 gallon and moved all the water and gravel from that into the 20 gallon. Just as we were topping off the tank it cracked down the back and started gushing water everywhere. Fortunately we had a old spare 10 gallon in the basement and we moved everything over to that. I can't imagine how horrible that would have been with a larger tank.

Bad luck, Doc. Seashell Aquariums are still supplying before Xmas, if you are still contemplating getting a new glass tank. They should supply Maidenhead Aquatics in Bold Heath, if that's any help. Thanks for the link Emma.. I was meaning to pop up to Bold Heath tomorrow for some food stuffs and silicon so I'll check with them and the shop as I may have to get a quote or two from them for future tankishness..

Big thanks to Mick as he has helped me out of Disaster and I now have a replacement tank in the pipeline which not only gets me out of the hole I am in but also will suit my future upgrade needs..
