i wanted to know if i have appropriate gravel for my weather loaches... i did have really coarse gravel before i got them because i only had my two goldfish...
here's a pic
oh! another thing! is it normal for the goldfish to suck up the gravel then spit it out again? will they end up swallowing it? they're not very smart...
Golds can dig a LOT, and really stir up a mess. If the Golds are still there, then I would suggest a fine gravel. Plant in pots.
If the Golds are gone, then go with sand or any of the plant specialty substrates.
Yes, Golds sift through the gravel like that, and I have heard of them getting a bit of gravel stuck in their mouth. Finer material is better so this cannot happen.

this gravel/stuff seems to be better since the weather loaches are 'sniffing around' for food alot more and they now bury down innto it when they freak out when the weather goes bad!
If the Loaches are burrowing into it then it is probably in the right size range for them. Is it a smooth rock so they are not hurt tunneling through it?

If the weather loaches are digging in it, I wouldn't worry about it... I AWAYS kept Dojos/Weatherfish with my Twin-tail Goldies & never worried about them... The gravel was finer than yours-but if your's aren't hurting themself, there's realy nothing to worry about.
