Planning a Rhinogobius sp. tank

Post by janma »

I'm getting six Rhinogobius sp. in a few days and setting them up in a 63litre tank. Would an Eheim 2252 be too much, 1200 L/h?

I'm looking to get some for my hillstream tank, so i think they should be fine in a decent flow.

So did you get the gobies, then?

2252 in a 63 l tank seems like a serious tornado to me. Unless you install spraybars or such to constrict the flow a bit...

No, I talked myself out of it :D

I would have put a spraybar. But the biggest issue was that the species was "unknown". So after googling a picture that somehow matched, there was a possibility that they would get too big for a 63L tank.

But it was the first time I saw this kind of gobies live, very interesting fish. Someday...

Which species? I'm not sure of any Rhino's which get over about 4 inches?

I don't remember which species it was, not even sure if it even it was a Rhinogobius sp (Looks more like a Stiphodon sp.). But the size was ~8cm and I would have bought 6 and to me that is too big for a 63L tank. Especially with and fish which you don't know the exact max size. I have one river flowing so it will do for now.

I went and checked on the fish at the LFS again yesterday. Definetily Stiphodon sp. and probably elegans, or at least looks like them in some pics. So the size would not be an problem. I have to reconsider these
