Baby Panda Garra!!!!!

Post by Jim Powers »

Three months ago, I moved all three of my panda garras together after each was in a tank by themselves for about a year. I have what I would guess would be two males and a female. The males were all over the female at first, but then she got a bit more reclusive and grumpy. Today, I was looking in the tank and noticed a small fish about .5 in ( 1 cm) long!! It's a panda garra!!! I am shocked, not only that I have one, but that I have only just now noticed it. I wonder if there are more?
I do not have a functional camera now, but here is a poor quality pic I got with my phone. Sorry for the quality, but you can at least see what it is and judge the size.

Yes I am. I really enjoy watching the little guy. He's dashing around the tank as I type this. I just wish I could get a better pic.

Can anyone lend you their camera for a couple of days? Would be great to see more pics. We can get hold of captive bred G. flavatra at about 2cm and they are really sweet so your little one must be unbelievably cute at just a cm or so! And I bet where there is one, there are more..... do you have an external cannister filter on the tank? If so, might be worth checking....

I have a friend who does quite a bit of nature photography. I need to get her over and see if she can get some shots of him.
This tank doesn't have a canister filter or I would have looked already. I keep looking around, but I think this is the only one.
I wish I would have seen them spawn. Do you have any idea if they bury the eggs or attach them to something?
I know Graeme saw the adults hovering around a boulder prior to finding some fry, but did he see where the eggs were deposited?

Congratulations! That is really exciting. And I bet he is about the cutest fish on the planet. I have my Garras next to my bed, and they are on the top of my favorite fish list. I can spend hours watching them. They share their tank with shrimp.
