Cleaning hard caked calcification off the tank glass

Post by andicoot »

Hi, my tank has ended up with a lot of that whitish calcification on the glass, I assume from water splashing and dripping down the outside from the external filter I have. It's really hard to get off, so I was wondering if there was a trick to it? Some special cleanser I could use to dissolve or soften it?

It's not inside the tank, just outside and along the top edge. (I've just bought a new internal filter, so hopefully won't be a problem anymore!)

Thanks, any ideas appreciated!

Coca cola works great, too. Highly acidic.

Lemon juice is another good one.

Citric acid will also work. Best in my opinion. Find this in the grocery store, spice department. Labeled 'Sour Salt'.

I dampened the crusty stuff with lemon juice, then sprinkled on the citric acid. Let it sit, keeping it damp with a paper towel soaked in lemon juice.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
